While there are so many foods that can really contribute to clear skin, I have decided for my first official post to discuss the foods that can wreak havoc on the skin. However keep in mind that not everyone is affected by these foods in the same way. Some people can consume these foods without experiencing a pimple while others can be more sensitive. It is best to keep a food diary to see how you tolerate different foods.
1. Refined Sugars and Carbohydrates
White sugar is very high on the glycemic index scale which measures a carbohydrate’s effect on glucose aka blood sugar levels. Refined carbohydrates such as white bread, pasta, and cakes are on the high end of the glycemic scale and therefore causes a rapid release of insulin to convert the large amounts of glucose into glycogen, a form of glucose storage for later use when blood sugars are low.
